After facing a terrible drubbing caused by the exploding Galaxy Note 7 smartphones Samsung is planning to make a mark with bigger phones. This Forbes post speculates that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 might be a 6-inch-screen smartphone with no bezel. Based on the leaked information, many websites are also speculating that the new Samsung Galaxy S8 will come in two variants: 5.1-inch and 5.5-inch, or even 5.7-inch. Both the phones will be curved screens. The smaller phone will be called Samsung Galaxy S8 and the bigger one will be called Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus. The company might be doing away with the Note series.
The two Samsung Galaxy S8 models are codenamed Dream and Dream 2. The phone may also be called Samsung Galaxy S8 Edge, just like its predecessor. The virtual reality headset might be an integral part of the entire setup.
Samsung Galaxy S8 specifications
Although different websites are mentioning different screen sizes for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8, it is settled that it is going to be a comparatively bigger phone with either 5.7-inch screen or 6-inch screen. The overall physical size of the smartphone may not increase and the space will be compensated with near-zero bezel.
The phone might come with a 4K, 2160 x 3840 screen, a mini projector and a 6GB RAM. Samsung Galaxy S8 may also have a 30-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization and a 9-megapixel front-facing camera.. Compared to 720 pixels per inch in iPhone 7, the new Samsung Galaxy S8 may come with 806 pixels per inch, although it isn’t guaranteed. But the sources in the Chinese manufacturing plant confirmed that S8 will be coming with a UHD “always on” display with TouchWiz UI. The operating system might be Android 7.0.
Galaxy S8 may be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 Exynos 8895 chipset and Mali-G71 GPU for faster graphics – this GPU is 20% more energy efficient than its predecessor.
The smaller phone may have 64GB of internal storage and the bigger phone may have 128GB internal storage. There will be a microSD card if you need more storage space.
The longer-lasting battery will be 4200mAH and you will be able to charge your phone wirelessly.
For authentication, the phone will support retina and fingerprint scanner.
The screen and some parts of the body may be made of Gorilla Glass 5, which is the strongest version available right now. The new Samsung smartphone is expected to be released late February, 2017.
There will be a built-in projector, according to the leaks, that will allow you to project the information in the phone onto a wall or a roof.
When will Samsung Galaxy S8 be released?
Again, this is based on the leaked information available on different websites but the above Forbes link says that both the models might be released in April 2017 in New York.
The new series of smartphones was to be launched later on but after that the debacle of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 the Korean electronics company has pre-pone the release of its new smartphone.
