Microsoft’s cloud business is helping to raise its earnings, bringing in $22.6 billion and $5.48 billion in net income. It’s Azure-based cloud business increased more than 100% year over year and the usage more than doubled in Q4 2016.
This works as a cushion for the decline in personal computing which has been down by 4%. There has been a 70% decline in the mobile phone sector.
With more and more businesses and individuals embracing the cloud, it isn’t just Microsoft that is raking in big profits in the cloud business. Almost all the companies providing cloud services such as Google and Amazon have registered profits. An interesting thing is, all these companies had built the cloud infrastructure as an internal resource that later on turned into a great business opportunity for them.
