Fingerprint readers are becoming ubiquitous. Every contemporary smartphone comes with a fingerprint reader. It’s way better than having to enter passwords and passcodes. But what is the most convenient place to have a fingerprint reader?
Some smartphones have the Home button with a fingerprint reader. Some later smartphones have the fingerprint reader at the backside. The new LG smartphones may have the fingerprint reader under the screen so that there is no extra button or obtrusion on the phone. Using the fingerprint reader and authenticating yourself might be as simple as touching your smartphone at a particular place on the screen.
The smartphone carrying the fingerprint reader under the screen will be coming on LG’s Innotek line of smartphones. The fingerprint reader under the smartphone screen brings you the same degree of secure authentication without the need for a separate sensor.
The space for the fingerprint reader under the screen has been created by allowing a small, 0.3 mm thick portion of the underside of the glass and placing the sensor underneath. This fingerprint sensor will never be directly exposed to the finger. All you need to do is, place your finger at the designated area and you will be authenticated.
Right now one of the biggest benefits of having the fingerprint reader under the screen is that for manufacturing waterproof phones, there will be fewer openings. There is a risk of the water entering the smartphone through the opening of the fingerprint reader. But since in LG’s case the fingerprint reader will be under the screen without direct contact with the outside world, there will be no chance of water entering.
