This might be quite tempting – listening to your calls and conversations when you make calls using Facebook Messenger or any other instant messenger. When you use a carrier to make a call it is illegal to tap your phone and even if someone wants to tap your phone, he or she needs permission the government. But for instant messaging services like Facebook Messenger, it might be quite easy to listen to your conversations while you make calls because there is no clear law against it.

The rumour has it that Facebook might be listening to your phone call conversations when you make phone calls using Facebook Messenger, according to this Verge report, to better target ads. Facebook has denied the charge. According to official Facebook statement, “Facebook does not use your phone’s microphone to inform ads or to change what you see in News Feed.”

Well, it is difficult to believe, especially when the news about Facebook suppressing free speech of Conservatives in the US broke. As I wrote above, it is very tempting to eves drop, especially when you know so much intelligence can be gathered if you can listen to people’s conversations.
