In many respects Google and Apple can be considered rivals, especially when it comes to providing cloud storage services and even smartphones (Android vs iOS). Google provides Google Drive and Apple provides iCloud although they don’t directly compete because iCloud is primarily used by people using an iPad or an iPhone and Google Drive is used by the rest of the people. Maybe this is why Apple has no qualms about using the Google cloud computing services to store its iCloud and services data on the Google Cloud platform.

All major tech companies are offering cloud computing services these days including Google, Amazon and Microsoft and in that regard, the Apple account is a big push for Google. It is trying to attract larger companies as cloud customers. Many big companies aren’t very tech savvy though so they outsource their IT services Indianapolis to firms who specialize in providing IT support.

Apple’s iCloud service also uses Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft’s Azure cloud computing services. With increasing competition with Amazon Apple wouldn’t completely like to rely on a single company and this is why it has started using the Google cloud computing services.

This has created a sort of a buzz in the cloud computing industry to such an extent that Amazon has released an official statement saying that Apple hasn’t defected. According to the statement, “It’s kind of a puzzler to us because vendors who understand doing business with enterprises respect NDAs [non-disclosure agreements] with their customers and don’t imply competitive defection where it doesn’t exist.”

In 2014 Apple released a white paper on its usage of cloud computing services on AWS and Azure.

The Re/Code has quoted another publication that says that Apple might be spending between $400-600 million on Google’s cloud computing services. Google’s total revenue from cloud competing services in 2015 was $500 million according to the same publication.

Apple’s move to Google Cloud computing services is also being seen as a cost-cutting measure ahead of creating its own cloud storage system. This is sort of puzzling because with billions of dollars of spare cash, Apple is flush with money. But whenever there is a chance to save money, every company tries to save it. People often ask How do managed services work? In this context, cloud computing has opened a massive sector to make business computing more efficient.
