The tiny Google Chromecast devices seem to be catching up very fast. According to this Alphabet 2016 Q2 Earnings Call, since its release in 2013 Google Chromecast has been purchased by 30 million people and two million people purchased Google Chromecast just in the past two months.
Google Chromecast is a small device that you can attach to the HDMI port of your TV. Once attached and activated, you can broadcast media from your smartphone and tablet to your TV and watch programs on the big screen. A wireless connection is set up between your TV and your smartphone through Google Chromecast.
Google Chromecast seems to be gaining popularity because lots of apps like YouTube and Netflix work better on mobile devices, although a small screen is a limitation. Since the connection is HDMI-based, audio and visual is as good as actually coming from your TV.
The stats about Google Chromecast just a small part of the earnings. Alphabet (the company that own Google) made a revenue of $21.5 billion compared to $17.7 billion for the same quarter last year.
